Our 10.71 year old son John continues to make great music on the piano. Here’s his latest – a very, very fast song that he’s been working on for several months. WARNING – you may get dizzy watching his fingers fly!

We still don’t even have a piano! There he was playing at his grandmother’s house.

John practices for an hour a day and normally has a weekly hour-long lesson. That’s it!

Inez and I didn’t teach him anything and we spent a good portion of last year in London WITHOUT a teacher. Nonetheless, we plodded on.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for your kids to actually practice on a daily basis.

Progress happens real fast – that is, when one practices…

Take a look at his evolution over the past 3.5 years.

After 13 months:

After 2 years – the imposing Star Wars Theme:

After 2.5 years, a 7-minute song without sheet music:

After 3 years….time for Mozart:

That was just the warm-up. Here he played it in front of 300 people at our church weekend getaway. People were literally hysterical in disbelief that was playing it. Watch it to the end, you won’t be disappointed!

Oh yeah…

Did I mention that John’s teacher lives 3,500 miles away – in Spain?
